Portfolio for Student Assessment
Description:
Throughout the unit, students will be completing various activities that demonstrate their knowledge and understanding of pirates. In this portfolio, students will show their understanding and growth in the five goal areas: Emotional, Social, Physical, Academic, and Spiritual. All students should include two artifacts from each category in their portfolio. If only two artifacts are present in a category, students should include those two. If more than two options are available, students may choose the two artifacts they wish to include. In addition, three more artifacts should be selected from any combination of categories and included in the portfolio. Students may choose to make adjustments to the artifacts before including them in their assessment. They will write a brief description about each artifact that they chose, why they chose it, and how it demonstrates that particular goal.
Rationale:
This portfolio assessment allows students to choose what artifacts they would like to include, which enables them to take control of their own learning. Doing this type of assessment will help students see the progress they made throughout the unit and it will allow them to evaluate their own work.
