Unit Goals & Professional Standards
Unit Goals
Spiritual
This unit will show students the greatness of God by building upon their knowledge of piracy. The student should understand that although sinful, pirates were created by God and still have the opportunity for repentance in order to receive His forgiveness and personal love. The sinful acts involved with piracy will also serve as examples for students in understanding several of Jesus’ parables and commands against stealing, coveting, and committing violence. Most importantly, students will also understand that they were created by God and may receive His free gift of love and forgiveness, or pardon for sins. In return for the free grace, students must submit to His commands, repent, and willingly seek to serve Him.
Academic
This unit will educate students about the historical background of pirates, and where they are today. They will learn some of the skills necessary to pirate life and how to use them. They will learn many characteristics of piracy, which will help them understand the fallen nature of this lifestyle.
Physical
This unit will show students examples of what pirate life was like physically on a ship. The various group activities and closing lesson will allow the students to use their bodies physically to praise God. Because we understand the physical development of our students at this adolescent age and know that they need to be moving in order to continue brain stimulation, students will need to be engaging in group work and discussion in order to benefit from the teaching and learning in class.
Emotional
This unit will help students feel excited about stretching their potential by offering challenging and enjoyable lessons. The various group activities included will also allow the students to feel the joy of sharing their gifts with others.
Social
This unit will demonstrate examples of broken relationships to the students while also portraying how broken relationships may be used to work for good. They will gain a greater appreciation for their relationships with their Heavenly Father and the joy they can have being in His family.
